Abbiamo letto la sua storia sul suo blog e dobbiamo dire che siamo colpita  e molto molto ammirate dal modo in cui Lei ha saputo trarre insegnamento dagli eventi tristi della sua vita per diventare ciò che è oggi: Una Grande Donna e una Grande Artista!

- Perchè ti sei data alla creazione dei tuoi lavori? -

A mio avviso c'è qualcosa nel viso che mostra la verità, l'emozione e il fuoco dell'anima. Adoro i visi e, anche se non sono l'unica cosa che dipingo, sono la parte femminile che preferisco ritrarre. Spesso dipingo ciò che mi ispira, ciò che mi tocca, un'immagine di forza e potere, vulnerabilità, anche tristezza. Più di tutto è importante sentire una verità che esce dalla pagina, una verità che andrà a toccare anche gli altri.

- Why do you create what you do? -

There is something about the face for me that hold truth, emotion, and the fire in someone’s soul. I love the human face and while it is not the only thing I paint, it is my favorite part of the feminine to paint. I often will paint what inspires me, what touches me, an image of strength, power, vulnerability, even sadness. More than anything it’s important to feel a truth coming from the painting, a truth that will also touch others.

   
- Come è cambiata la tua pratica nel tempo? -

So che ad un certo punto ho avuto la necessità di comportarmi come un'artista di successo a tempo pieno. Prima dipingevo solo uno o due lavori al mese. Ad un certo punto ho deciso che avrei dovuto farlo giornalmente e che avevo bisogno di fare qualcosa di creativo ogni giorno.

- How has your practice changed over time? - 

I know at some point I decided that I needed to behave like a successful artist who works full time. Before then I think I was playing it small, painting just one or two paintings a month if that. At some point I decided that my practice needed to be daily and that I needed to be engaged in some kind of creativity each day.

- Come funziona il tuo processo creativo? -

Tendo a non pensare troppo a dove sto andando. Normalmente scelgo dei colori che mi attraggono in quel momento e inizio. Mi piace lavorare in maniera intuitiva e faccio raramente piani. A volte passo del tempo creando patterns nella pittura per vedere che cosa ne emerge. Altre volte dipingo uno sfondo e creo una delle mie ragazze. E' un processo molto organico e non lavoro quasi mai seguendo un riferimento.

- How does your creating process work? -

I tend to go in without much thought as to where I am going. I normally choose colors I’m attracted to at the moment and just begin. I love working very intuitively and rarely have a plan. Sometimes I spend some time just making patterns in the paint and see what emerges, sometimes I paint a background and create one of my girls. It’s a very organic process and I almost never work from a reference.

- Quali sono i tuoi progetti attuali? -

Al momento ho dei lavori su commissione chiamati "spirit girls". E' un processo stupendo e sacro che faccio prevalentemente con donne: in una sessione discutiamo di ciò che vorrebbero che il dipinto rappresentasse per loro. Io pongo delle domande per farmi un'idea del loro spirito e poi creo un dipinto basato sulla nostra sessione. Attualmente sono anche concentrata sul dipingere per me e ho creato diversi pezzi per una mostra. Ora posso rilassarmi un po' e giocare.

- What are your current projects? -

Right now I have some commissions called spirit girls that I am working on. This is a wonderful and sacred process I do with women mostly, in which I have a session with them to discuss what they want their painting to represent for them. I ask questions to get a sense of their spirit and then I create a painting based on our session. I’m also just focusing on painting for me right now as I just came out of creating several pieces for an exhibit. Now I can relax a bit and just play.

- Quali sono gli obiettivi della tua arte? -

Per me si tratta di stare in una corrente creativa. E' molto importante. Poi viene l'abilità di creare qualcosa del nulla e che tocchi la gente in un certo modo. Questo mi piace molto. Lo scopo è quasi sempre quello di connettermi più profondamente con gli altri.

- What is the goal you pursue with your art? -

 For me it’s about being in the creative flow. That is most important to me. Then comes the ability to create something out of nothing and have it touch people in a certain way. I love that. The goal is almost always to connect with myself and others more deeply.

- Come hai iniziato? -

Ho iniziato a 40 anni dopo aver seguito un corso gratuito di arte curativa. Ne sono stata attratta e da allora non ho mai smesso di dipingere. E pensare che avevo sempre disegnato figure a stecchetto.

 - How did you get started? - 

I started at the age of 40 after taking a free healing art class. I was hooked after that.  I have not stopped painting since. I used to just draw stick figures.

- Quale pensi che sia la caratteristica del tuo lavoro, quella che ti connette al tuo lavoro? -

Sento che lo Spirito di Dio mi parla attraverso i miei dipinti, e sento di essere qui per portare un messaggio di speranza, amore, potere personale e luce attraverso la mia arte. Avendo subito abusi da bambina, ciò mi mette nella condizione, da adulta, di poter aiutare gli altri.

- What do you think is the feature of your work, the feature that connects your art to you?  -

I feel that Spirit or God speaks to me through my paintings and so I feel that I am here to convey a message of hope, love, personal power and light through my art. Having been a abused child, this is very empowering for me as an adult to be able to do this for others.
